Every person carries a number. It moves in real time, up and down, like a share price — a live market in human value, and everyone is listed on it. Your score decides where you live, what you eat, what care you receive, and how long you are permitted to expect to live.

CRAIG is a Senior Analyst inside the system that calculates it. His job is to observe, interpret, and file. He is very good at it, and the voice running his assessments has been in his head for eleven years.

Then he finds an apple seed on a washroom floor.

He doesn't file it.

A film about what a system can measure — and what it takes in exchange.

Blade Runner asked whether a machine could become human. This asks what it costs to make a human into an instrument.

NOW ONE MAN IS DETERMINED TO PROVE IT EXISTED.

Ryan Koval is 53, broke, restless and still haunted by the band that never became what he believed it could be.

Thirty years after Sundog's record disappeared before it was ever released, Ryan finds his former bandmate Marc living a quiet life on a remote island off the coast of British Columbia. Marc has a wife, a daughter, a job, responsibilities—and no particular interest in becoming twenty-two again.

Ryan won't take no for an answer.

What begins as an unlikely attempt to resurrect their lost music becomes a journey into memory, friendship, failure and the dangerous human need to have our lives witnessed.

As Ryan becomes increasingly obsessed with rebuilding Sundog's history, the world around them keeps erasing it. Records disappear. Stories contradict each other. Institutions remember only what can be documented. Even the truth becomes something that has to be filed, verified and approved.

And slowly, Marc begins to understand what Ryan cannot:

Something does not become unreal simply because nobody remembers it.

Beautifully observed, darkly funny and quietly devastating, SUNDOG is an existentialist movie about two men confronting the past—and discovering that the thing worth saving may have nothing to do with the record at all.

A film about friendship, memory, failure, and the strange things that remain real after the world has forgotten them.

Jay is a musician losing his sight.

He has spent years learning how not to look blind — memorizing spaces, reading people through sound, refusing help before anyone can offer it.

At home, he and his wife are trying to have a child. His career has stalled. His marriage is fraying. An experimental treatment may preserve some of the vision he has left, but all he can do is wait.

Jay leaves the city for a remote island off the coast of British Columbia, where his cousin has built a quieter life after walking away from his own creative ambitions.

For a while, it works.

Jay begins writing again. He moves through the forest and ocean differently than the people who can see them. He meets a local girl drawn to everything beyond the island.

Then a misunderstanding becomes an accusation.

Suspicion becomes certainty. Old prejudices find somewhere to land. And as Jay’s remaining vision deteriorates, he and his cousin are forced into the wilderness with armed men behind them.

Sound of Light is a dramatic thriller about two men trying to hold on to lives that may already be gone — and what becomes visible when there is finally nothing left to hold onto.

Jump Off the Cliff is an independent Canadian film company founded by Svetozar Ristovski and Craig Olejnik.

Svetozar Ristovski

Svetozar Ristovski is a Canadian writer, director and producer working across European and Canadian cinema. His feature directorial debut, Mirage, premiered in TIFF’s Discovery programme and received the Special Jury Prize at the Tokyo International Film Festival. He later directed Dear Mr. Gacy and wrote, directed and produced Lazar, an international European co-production. Ristovski also co-produced Ognjen Sviličić’s These Are the Rules, which premiered in Venice’s Orizzonti section. In 2015, European Film Promotion selected him for Producers on the Move at Cannes.

Craig Olejnik

Craig Olejnik is a Canadian actor, writer, director and producer. He starred as Toby Logan in CTV’s The Listener for five seasons, serving as an executive producer on its final season. His feature acting work includes Margaret’s Museum, Flower & Garnet and The Timekeeper. Beyond acting, Olejnik co-wrote, co-directed and produced the short films Interview with a Zombie and Road Kill Renegade. He co-founded Jump Off the Cliff with filmmaker Svetozar Ristovski, where he is developing original feature films as a writer, director and producer.
